KATHLEEN LOCEY

Kathleen began her artworks in her very late twenties, by literally following the dreams of her quiet moments and sleep. She began basic beadwork and very basic painting through inspiration from the dream, trial and error. During a friendly visit to Kat’s home Master Bead worker Rose Harley of the Mohawk Nation expressed an interest in  sharing her beading skill with the one condition that Kathleen continue to paint. After a more traditional style friend and mentorship the women were awarded grant by the Pennsylvania Council of Arts formalizing the work they had already begun.

The apprenticeship afforded Kathleen opportunity to become a Master Bead worker herself in the eyes of the Arts community. At the same time she was able to explore her ancestry among the Iroquois put aside by her grandparents out of necessity. While Kathleen is not a registered member of any of the Iroquois tribal nations it is her hope that the craftsmanship and styling of all of her artworks expresses the love and home she has found in the heart of her roots.Kathleen’s Artworks have been displayed in small museums, art galleries, and various venues throughout Northeastern Pa., and N.Y., including her own Metaphysical/ physical Arts shop.

Moving to Texas gives her the Joy and chance to share her vision through art with the Southwest. She’s having a blast rekindling her passion in this new location and it is a sincere wish that it is inspiring and enjoyed.
